Details Behind MLW Departures of Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku

We have an update on a couple of MLW contracts that rapidly changed. Recently, Fightful reported that Dom Garrini’s multi-year deal that he’d signed in 2019 actually extended into 2022, leaving him with a year remaining on his deal. That has already changed, as PWInsider reported Garrini and Kevin Ku have procured their releases. Fightful has learned that creatively MLW didn’t have anything for Garrini and Kevin Ku after Tom Lawlor exited the company, and Garrini had some healt issues prior. Since then, Garrini and Ku approached Major League Wrestling to procure their releases from the company, which we’re told weren’t actually effective until January 13, but the release was agreed to in late December and MLW has been fine with them pursuing other things in the interim. We’re told that the agreement is mutual between MLW and Violence is Forever, and it doesn’t appear there is any ill will between the two sides. It was expected on MLW’s side that the two would appear on AEW tapings in Cleveland in some capacity. Garrini and Ku were on exclusive pay-per-appearance deals with Major League Wrestling. At the center of author Naima Coster’s novel What’s Mine & Yours are two struggling mothers. Jade is a Black single mother who is trying to provide a better life for her son, and Lacey May is a white mother who is trying to give her daughters the life she never had. Their stories will intertwine over decades, starting with when Lacey May opposes the integration of her daughters’ school – the same school Jade is trying to get her son into. Coster told NPR’s Audie Cornish that fiction gives us a window into other people’s lives but that does not mean we have to condone their actions.

UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas and former champ Carla Esparza are expected to meet for a second time at UFC 274 on May 7. Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso was the first to report the news of the match-up being in the works via a tweet, although the promotion themselves have yet to confirm anything regarding the booking. Esparza won the pair’s initial meeting back at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale in December 2014, where she defeated Namajunas via a third-round submission due to a rear-naked choke to become the inaugural UFC women’s strawweight champion. The 34-year old Torrance, California native currently is on a five-fight winning streak and is coming off of a second-round TKO victory over Yan Xiaonan at UFC Vegas 27. Namajunas meanwhile is 6-1 in her last seven Octagon outings and will try to build on a split-decision win over former UFC strawweight champion, Zhang Weili, in their rematch back at UFC 268.
